The Occupation of DC

Occupy DC - In the Capitol's Shadow
Had Veteran's Day off from work, so I figured I'd go check out the Occupy DC protests.  While I don't remotely agree with their politics, I'm fascinated by the phenomenon of "occupying" as a form of protest.  More after the break.
Occupy DC - The Occupation
It's just not what you usually see in downtown DC.  The occupiers really have made McPherson Square their home, albeit a ramshackle temporary home.

Occupy DC - Soapbox The occupier camp at Freedom Plaza was much more organized and clean, but clearly smaller and with less activity.

Things were pretty quiet at both camps while I was there during the late afternoon, but there was still no shortage of colorful characters advancing their leftist/progressive agenda.

Occupy DC - Urban Camping
While I doubt the efficacy of their message or tactics, what they are doing is certainly provocative and it'll be interesting to see how they weather the winter.  See more photos from the occupation here.
